I've always heard that ambition and humility are opposites. That those who have great ambition end up arrogant, and those who are too humble end up lacking the strength to go after what they want. I spent time believing this, until I realized that it's exactly the opposite: the two together are the rarest and most powerful combination there is.
What ambition without humility produces
Ambition without humility creates people who want to grow quickly, but who already think they know everything before learning. They are the type of person who doesn't listen to feedback because they think they are already above it, who doesn't admit mistakes because mistakes seem like weakness, who confuses confidence with infallibility.

What humility without ambition produces
On the other hand, humility without ambition creates good, but stuck people. It's the person who recognizes their own limitations, who listens, who learns, but who never uses any of this to go further. Get comfortable with "I'm fine like this", without ever testing how far you could go.

The balance is not fixed
This is not a formula that applies once and stays fixed forever. There are days when ambition speaks louder and it is necessary to bring humility back. There are days when humility becomes an excuse not to take risks, and it is necessary to bring ambition back. Balance requires constant attention, it is not a state that can be achieved and stored in a drawer.
